They are ingrown hairs- it took me years to figure out a good way to get rid of them. I find waxing too expensive and not convienent enought (not to mention painful) and Nair isn't designed to be used near your vagina- the chemicals are pretty harsh and can cause some bad side effects. Plus, waxing and nair can cut down on the ingrown hairs (personally, i find i generaly get more from waxing), but its not a cure.

I rarely get them anymore from shaving, and what I have found works best is this:
1) Instead of using a normal women's shaving cream that is formulated for the whole body, I found that it makes a huge difference if I use a men's shaving cream thats specifically intended for their face (there are quite a few products that are geared towards reducing shave bumps for men, since the skin on their face is just as delicate, gets shaved more often, and is way more apparent to the public!) My favorite at the moment is Neutrogena Men's Shaving Cream- its very smooth cream, not foam, and it has a small bit of saliclyic acid in it, which is a popular ingredient in a lot of acne medication. I find that one bottle of it lasts me forever, too. I also make sure that I exfoliate pretty vigorously before I shave- a good hard rub with a loofah!
2) When I'm actually shaving, I try to shave small sections at a time, slowly. I use just a regular Venus razor, which is pretty decent, although I find when the blades are new and at their sharpest is when its the most dangerous, since thats when the hair gets cut off the closest and it tends to create the most ingrown hairs. A lot of people swear by shaving with the grain instead of against it. I think a lot of the trouble is caused by people trying to shave too closely. visually, you can get away with not shaving very closely, and I've also found that what seems kind of prickly and not super smooth to me in the shower will seem baby smooth to me in ten minutes when im out of the shower and dry. (Just like how you're supposed to shave when your hair is wet, because it makes the hair expand and become softer, so when its dry it will seem less obvious because its no longer full of all that water)
3) When I'm done shaving, I find that as long as I keep an eye on my hair, its generally in pretty good shape. I exfoliate with my loofah each time I shower, and keep an eye to see if I see any starts of ingrown hairs- generally you can see a very mild bit of red and free the hair with a bit of tweezers before it gets bad at all. The redness goes away quickly once the hair isn't trapped. And I also tend not to pluck the hair all the way out- just free it from the dead skin with a little pull of fine nosed tweezers. If I pluck it all the way, I find that in a few days, I'll just have an ingrown hair in the same spot as the hair grows back again. When its first starting to grow back I like to clean down there in the shower with the same cleaners I use on my face- just sensitive skin face wash and occasionally a gentle exfoliating scrub. Keeping it clean prevents the pimple like structures that form if you do get an ingrown hair, so at least it won't be infected

After a few weeks, it wont be anymore work at all because you won't be getting them. There is a great solution called "in-grow go".. it works really well and also prevents them from coming back..
ingrown hairs are infected hair follicles like red spots on your skin and the hair is growing underneath the surface of your skin.Sometimes its a bit messy but you have to pop the spot and prise it out with tweezers.
As for razor burn you need to use shaving cream on damp skin and always use razors with sharp blades and those aloe strips.

razor burn is caused by little cuts on your skin, you can prevent it by shaving with shave gel, warm water, a new blade, and not pressing hard when you shave. to soothe it put on a soothing lotion, preferably unscented. ingrown hairs are hairs that literally are kind of growing in the wrong way, they look like pimples. They can be prevented by washing with soap and water after you shave and putting lotion on after you get out of the shower.
Usually when I get a razor burn, I put some vaseline cream on it so it doesn't irritate me so much. You can also use any other lotion that'll keep the pain away. An ingrown hair is when you shave in a certain area too often. For example, if you shave your legs more often then they should be shaved, you will get a little bump. It's a hair inside of your leg. But it cannot grow out due to the swelling of your skin. It'll look like a pimple on your skin kind of. I've gotten those before. All you do is just leave them. Don't try to burst it or whatever. Because that will make it worse. It'll only swell more. It's only temporary. If it ends up itching, but some gold bond cream or powder on it and try not to scratch. Good luck..
Make sure the razor is new and you are frequently changing blades. Use a rich body wash or shaving cream. I like to use hydrocortizone cream or acne cream, since ingrown hairs are really pimples with hairs inside. They are caused by the hair curling under the skin instead of growing out.
I use aloe vera gel to sooth shaving rash on my face. It works well for me. Buy the Banana Boat brand from Superdrug.... it's cheaper than the others.
Use a body soup, the liquid it seems to be smoother then saving cream, always use a new raiser - maybe you could get two or three uses out of one also try a diferent raiser then what you are using. the more lather on your legs no less you'll have the burns and use lotion when done, keeps the skin nice, smooth and healthy!
In growen hairs are when the same peice of hair comes up and then works it way back under the skin and comes up again, sometimes it's hard to tell you have them but most get red and hurt! Men get them often and they can get infected! Remove them by plucking them out!

It will fade over time. I too used to get awful ingrown hairs on my legs from epilating. They got so bad I eventually stopped doing it. Keep your skin moitsturized, and purchase a small tube of the scar fading lotion Mederma. This will speed up the fading process. Good Luck....ingrown hairs are no fun.
No it's not but it takes a while to go. I got really bad ingrowing hairs and scars from years of waxing. they've pretty much gone now. Exfoliating helps with both the ingrowing hairs and the scarring.

Exfoliating!!! Buy an exfoliating scrub and rub it on the affected areas while taking a hot shower. The heat makes the exfoliating process easier. Exfoliating also helps with acne on any part of the body.

I think you're problem might be that you're not shaving WITH the growth of the hair. If you shave the way the hair grows you shouldn't have this problem. Otherwise, you will have irritation. Also, try putting a small amount of shampoo with your shaving cream and shave after you've showered to make sure your beard is nice and soft. Godloveya.

Sounds like ingrown hairs. The skin closes up over the follicle and its got nowhere to go. Exfoliate regularly. A body puff or scrubbe, not sure what they are actually called, apply liquid soap and it gently removes the dead layer of skin allowing the hair to grow without causing infection or pain.

You can try the Nair or something similar, but that could make things worse (I've treated women with wicked rashes down there caused by Nair...) Make sure your razor is fresh and sharp, and that you use a good, lubricating shaving gel; a dull blade tugs and nicks skin (AKA "razor burn"). Advice about exfoliation is good, although go gentle while you have the active bumps. If all that fails, then there's always waxing, plucking, and even laser hair removal (laser = very expensive, but permanent).

16 or 16 1/2. i just some itching every now and then (nothing serious).they are located on the testicles, and down and below the head of my penis,and alittle at the base of the penis. they are the color of my skin (not on the head). Note: im an 18 yr old virgin (can't be an std). when i was going through puberty i had some delays b/c as i was going through growth spurts etc.... my hip slipped and i think it might've caused some effects with my private area. when my hip slipped the doc called it Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis. this happend to me at 14 and 17 i will need a plate in the summer of 08 (place in right hip)

I don't know about your pelvis, but ingrown hairs are nothing to worry about. You can often treat them on your own by taking a very shallow bath in water as hot as you can stand; that opens them and lets them drain. Sorta like zits, but lower down. (-:

if you have had them they still can be an std a mother can have herpes and spread it to her unborn child(or through the process of childbirth) and it can lay dormant for all those years and that may be your break out stage. go to a dr and have them check to make sure. if hes not sure have a biopsy done(where they take a sample of it and check it) . ingrown hairs dont usually last 2 years. and they usually cause a sore that looks like a pimple.and theyre painful usually so get checked just in case

It might be Molluscum contagiosum, which will go away by itself but may take 4-6 months. My son had Molluscum and my uncle, a dematologist, advised me to treat it by using wart remover--very carefully!!!--on each pearly bump. This helped it clear up faster.
Exfoliate. A great way to do that and it will perk up your spirits as you do it. Get three tea bags, and one orange. Run a warm bath, drop the tea bags into the water and then slice your orange and drop it into the water as well. This will really exfoliate you and you don't have to scrub. Crawl in and enjoy. When you get out of the bath, slather your whole body down with lotion. It works great!
I would try using a loofa sponge or one of those ones that can help to fight acne, I have gotten them so bad i had to sit in a tub of epson salt! But it worked...
exfoliate a lot plus maybe also consider using a different method of hair removal to stop getting them int he first place, e.g. waxing

You may want to try passing a damp, warm towel over your legs before you start shaving. Also, try not to shave too soon after the hair has grown back...try to wait until it has grown out somewhat before shaving. Good luck.
I currently use a 2 blade razor but would like to go to a 1 blade. I only shave with the grain with a cream for sensitive skin.
I've seen razors called "Bump Fighters" that are supposed to help people with sensitive skin. But I've also read a lot about DE shaving (kind of old school).

I shave them all the time, then again I don't get them as often as I've used to. If you shave every day you probably won't get them as much as if you only shave like once a week or so. Also, it helps to use the best stuff you can find to shave with; if your skin is sensitive it helps to have something really thick with a lot of moisturizers to it to condition the skin. You want to treat your face with the same type of consideration that you do your hair and the rest of your body. I don't go for the shaving gels though; they dont' work as good as you'd think, and tend to clog the razor. Go with GEL or the Gillette line; I think Loreal has some good stuff. I used Netrogena one time it was pretty good too. I know paying $5 or $10 for some shaving cream and like $4 for a good razor is expensive, but it's worth it. If nothing else spend for the shaving cream and skimp on the razor.

Warm packs to that reason can help them come to a head and come out. Dont use any lotions that could clog pores.
Start using an acne body wash. I think clearasil and neutrogena make them. Or try using a body scrub. A little FYI, at Sally's Beauty Supply there is this stuff called prescription RX, in a green bottle, it smells awful but it's the BEST stuff to treat your legs with before and after shaving to prevent ingrown hairs. Try it.

Ya know, I'm not really sure on how to get rid of them lotion maybe? Yet, if you use shower gel, like a bath and body works shower gel or wash, you won't get ingrown hairs. All of my friends always ask me why I don't have them. Thats why. Make sure u use a razor made for women. I'm tellin you, it works.

An ingrown hair is a hair that curls and then penetrates the skin with its tip as it grows, causing swelling and redness. Inflammation and pus formation are the most common symptoms.
Any pharmacy will sell products to help with the problem but if it's infected, and it sounds like it is, you should really see a doctor - soon!

Just make sure it is an ingrown hair. A pest control tech once thought he had an ingrown hair and opened it. Come to find out, it was a brown recluse bite. Once opened it spread very quickly and started killing the tissue all around his knee. Very painful. If it is indeed an ingrown hair, I would open it, remove the hair with tweezers and a disinfected sewing needle, then put perozide or alcohol on it. Keep it clean and if needed use neosporin or something with an antibiotic type treatment on it.

Use antbacteral bar soap. Wash reaily good before shaving, then wash really good after. Bacteria is what causes the red bumps. If you shower every day use the soap. I do that and have'nt got bumps for alont time.
Don't shave against the grain. Shave in the direction of growth.

If you're shaving - one tip is to exfoliate like crazy and use an extremely gentle shaving cream.
I use Aveeno shaving cream and I exfoliate before and after shaving... it helps keep razor bumps to a minimum. The other thing is not to wait too long between shavings. If I let my bikini line grow too long, it tends to react more when it comes time to shave... so I try and shave it every other day.

Make sure that your legs are good and wet before you start shaving. Also use hair conditioner instead of shaving cream, it softens the hair making it easier to shave. What you get is smooth legs with no bumps.

You just have to get used to it. If you're new to shaving, then you will get some irritation.
There are creams that will minimize the look of ingrown hairs (you can find them in most beauty salons) but I've found that the best way is to keep waxing that area and over time you won't have that problem anymore.

I try to avoid them in the first place by using a loofah, but when they come, I pluck them with out tweezers.
Well I know what to do to prevent them. First of all, shave in the way the hair grows, it might not get you as close a shave on the first pass (you can go again) but helps stop the ingrown hairs. When you shave against the way the hair grows you are essentially pushing ANY bacteria from your razor, tub/shower, bar of soap, etc. into the pore from which the hair grows. Then the bacteria become all happy and crap from the moist, wet environment and start to multipy. Then you have an unhealthy pore that the hair cannot grow through and its red, inflamed and eventually pus-filled like a bad and painful pimple. The hair cant break through that mess.
Also, when i shave any sensitive areas of skin, you kow what i mean, i apply a thin coating of Neosporin (generic name and cheaper: triple antibiotic ointment) over the shaved area to help stop any bacteria from multiplying that may have been introduced by the razor/tub/you/them.
Next of all ladies if you hate those lil bumpies you get on your legs then do NOT wear pants on your legs or panties (that have irritating elastic) in any area you have shaved recently that has not been shaved in a while...give it a coupla days before you shave again. All jeans and panties do is rub sensitive, female skin by rubbing against pores that are trying to grow new hair and they just push the new growing hair back into its follicule where it pushes and pokes the pore and then the bacteria begin to multiply
****And last but not least....shave everyday no matter how much you need it. The skin and pores become accustomed over time and it wont irritate so badly because the skin adapts. And ...ONLY use your OWN razor, share with NO one. Toss it out if you arent sure because if you dont, you are basically transplanting someone elses skin cells and bacteria into your own pores.....Good Luck folks....keep it un-bumpy....thats cool...and sexy...shaved is good.

Ingrown hair usually occurs when you shave or wax. Try applying ice and loads of lotion after hair removal. Ingrowth can be avoided if the waxing/shaving is done in a proper manner. Exfoliating also helps a good deal. It can be frustrating having to deal with ingrowth!

exfoliating witha pumice stone helps a lot. just rub the stone on the affected area for 2 minutes after bathing, when the skin is soft. apply moisturizer and within a week, u'll see the difference.

Tweezing exacerbates the problem. Ingrown hairs are caused by infected hair follicles that come from the end of the hair shaft that, after being shaved, and is cut in such a way that again the end of the hair is sharpened and as it continues to grow it curls into another nearby hair follicle.
This introduction of the sharpened end of a hair follicle into another causes an inflammatory response in the skin and leads to a pimple or bump because of the inflammation of the skin.
If ingrown hairs are still a problem after making sure that the shaving process was completed in such a way that more occurrences are prevented, then you must remove the plug of hardened proteins that are blocking the hair follicle with exfoliation products so that the hair may grow outward. Beta hydroxy acids (such as a salicylic acid) are best for this because they penetrate deeply into the plug of hardened proteins and slowly dissolve the plug. If the inflammation has progressed to the point of serious infection, then a dermatologist or physician will need to be consulted. Another option of course would be laser hair removal.
Exfoliating every time you bathe and cleanse the face (as you would with Skin Biology's Exfol Serum or Exfol Cream, which contains beta hydroxy acid: salicylic acid) is your best defense against ingrown hairs and razor bumps. Gentle cleansing and keeping the skin smooth and supple works well to keep the hair follicles moisturized and growing in the right direction.
Try to pull the hair out with a tweezers.
Always apply astringent(after shave) immediately after shaving and then moisturize.
In the shower, exfoliate daily, with a loofa.
Maybe you need to use a deep pore cleansing wash to open the pores back up and press the puss out. There will be some soap in there.
Alternatively, steam your face over a boiling hot bowl of water to open the pores back up and squeeze them out. Its sounds nasty but it works.
THEN.. change your razor blade more often and try using king shaves oils rather than rich lathery foam.

Soak in warm water and scratch across the hair to gently tease it out. Treat with a moisturising balm.

there is this stuff called "TendSkin" and it is specifically for preventing ingrown hairs. just squirt some on a cotton ball and apply to the area. it smells kinda funny so, maybe just use it at nite. oh and never use it on freshly shaved skin, it'll burn! you can find it at Sephora and at Beauty First.
You are shaving in the wrong direction. Take note how you shave. Shave in the opposite direction. This will help prevent getting them.

easiest way is by going to the doctors and getting an std test. Best way is protecting your self and getting it taken care of as soon as possible.
If it is just ingrown hairs or pimples the doctor can also tell you how to prevent it.

I would say that it's herpes, unfortunately, simply because of the pattern you described. I don't have herpes, but a quick google image search will show you what a 'normal' outbreak looks like. You shouldn't generally have 'outbreaks' of pus infested boils around your genitals. See a doc. Only he can tell you for sure. And you need to know if only so that you don't spread anything. sweety this sounds like genital herpes. Have you been feel exhausted or run down since this has happened? Do you sleep more often than usual now? If you have these symptoms and you dont feel like yourself then I suggest you go to your health department or whoever your primary doctor is. You need to be tested for this and given medication if it is Herpes. You will feel much better.
damn i got this same problem, soemtimes halfways on my butt cheek. if it is an STD of any kind, then i know i would have been born with it because i have never had sex with anyone but myself. also sense i dont bath regualrly, i think id be prone to YEAST INFECTIONS (im really a female), so it maybe that. go to doctor and tell me what he says
pimples have a white head on them. Boils are just red bumps no head. Ingrown hairs have the bump with the hair showing at somepoint. And herpes are blister that hurt. So it sounds like u have herpes u need to go get checked out
I shave my chest and use after shave, but I always get irritating bumps. What products work best to prevent or treat these these? Are there any Jergen's lotions or exfoliators or anything?
Okay...u should REALLY try waxing, Nair, or Veet. if u STILL want to shave, then like the girl above me said, apply rubbing alcohol (it does hurt like HELL) then apply Jergens shave minimizing lotion.
jus get some balls and wax it. you wont get the bumps that way.
Actually, although it stings like hell....clean with rubbing alcohol AFTER you shave and then apply Jergens Shave Minimizing lotion.

I have had the same problem and I found the best way..use a Lady Remington cordless razor to shave there..it works wonders I tell ya.
i'm not too sure, you could try exfoliating to get the hairs out. But not too hard obviously! good luck!

Sephora sells these peeling pads for ingrown hair. I have them on my legs and they are the worst!
There are several products on the market that "Claim" to prevent ingrown hairs. I've tried them all. I have found the best way to prevent them is to shave less often and use a fresh razor every time. Shave WITH the line of hair growth. For removing the pain full ones, for they can get infected, use a pair of tweezers to pluck. It sounds pain full I know, but it's worse when they become infected and grow deep. After plucking the hair, use peroxide to clean to wound. Good Luck

try Tend Skin, its in a blue bottle. You can find it at most drug stores. Also start using a single blade razor instead of duel or triple blades.
tea tree oil brings them up to the surface and take them out with a tweezer non painful but better to wax might start off being sore but it lasts longer less ingrowth and smooth
They've been there forever, ever since I've shaved. Is there a way to prevent them or make them less noticeable?
You can minimize the ingrown hairs by not shaving as much. My dr prefers that I trim the hairs of my pubic area instead of shaving and one reason why is because of the issues with ingrown hairs.
When I get ingrown hairs I have to have them removed by my dr. Same with whenever I get pimples there.
I would recommend talking to your dr about this as well to see what they suggest.
first use a GOOD exfoliator, and ALWAYS use a new razor for that area, i shave everyday with no red bumbs. oh and use shaving cream/gel that should work
I've used nair and w/e but they all smell AWFUL! veet is the best I've used so far, besides venus vibrance razor.
The venus Razor is the best by far... now here is a little secret i have... i use conditioner instead of shave gel...it makes everything much softer and it doesnt have the alcohol content that the gels have. The conditioner method works exceptionally well in the bikini area
