Small bumps in pubic area after shaving, what are they?

About two months ago I had surgery and for that a portion of my pubic hair had to be shaved by the prep team in the hospital. Several days after the surgery I started to have these little red bumps... at first I thought they were ingrown hairs and tried to pop them, but that did not work. They healed over like normal skin and the bump is still there. Even after two months, all the bumps are still there, I am however not getting any new ones either.

What is this, and is there a way to make it go away.

Ingrown hairs. Actually, hairs growing, but trapped in or under the skin. The person who shaved you did a piss-poor job, most likely with a dull razor. The skin surface was literally scraped off down to live tissue, which is actually only a few cells below the surface. Skin did what skin does when wounded, forms a scab and started to heal. The scab trapped the hair end like glue and as the hair slowly grew from the follicle down below, it resulted in the bumps you see. In a few more days, the skin will heal enough to release the scab and the hair and likely all will be well. You do not have to actually bleed to develop a scab. A rug burn, for example, will damage the skin so it "weeps" a clear fluid, plasma. It is clear because the breaks in the skin are there, but smaller than the size of the red blood cells, so you do not appear to be bleeding, but you ARE, just as if you cut your finger. In that fluid are platelets, which bridge the gaps and when exposed to air, dry to become the scab, which seals the surface and separates live cells from the environment. You are the victim of poor shaving technique, a dull razor or both. Any hand lotion or oil will help as both will soften scabs and make it easier for the hairs to be released. I had a Lady friend a while back who shaved every square inch of her body and she never had this problem. She shaved every day. No shaving cream, just unscented baby oil. She told me all it takes is slight pressure with a sharp razor to get a really close shave. I never felt any stubble on her, anywhere. Since you have now gone for a couple of months, the hairs were not simply glued at the surface by the scabs, but rather the skin healed over the hair end, trapping it below the surface. Hairs grow through pores, the natural holes in the skin surface. No hole to grow through means a bump forms from the ingrown hair. In your case, the skin healed over leaving no hole for the hair to grow through. The only thing to do now is... well... nothing. The hairs may work their way through over time or they won't and the bumps will be there forever...

They are ingrown hairs. Some hydrocortisone cream applied daily may help this go away. Sometimes, they can take a long time to work themselves back up to the surface so they can heal.

If they did a "dry shave" it will stay irritated like that for months. Don't try to re-shave it, pop them or wear tight underwear. It will keep aggravating the site.

Hydrocortisone cream helps with the itching that must be there.
